Highlights from the 17th Annual Juried Show Opening Reception

Turner McGehee with his selection of Artowrk

On Saturday, April 13th, the vibrant art community of Northeast Nebraska came together the much-anticipated Opening Reception of the 17th Annual Juried Show. Against the backdrop of creativity and innovation, attendees were treated to a captivating display of artworks representing a myriad of styles and mediums, handpicked by our esteemed juror, Turner McGehee, Professor of Visual Arts at Hastings College.

McGehee’s discernment and keen eye for talent were evident as he addressed the audience, reflecting on the meticulous process of selecting the finalists from a pool of 150 submissions. Each artwork, whether a striking photograph or an intricate sculpture, bore the imprint of its creator’s unique perspective and artistic vision.

Among the standout pieces were those awarded top honors by McGehee:

    • Best of Show: Bart Vargas – “There are places on the map that do not exist 2022”

    • 1st Place: Brad Marr- “Transcendence of a leaf into a mountain”

    • 2nd Place: Butch Rohrschneider – “Wood Grain 3”
