Can you share a bit about your background and how your passion for the arts led you to join the Board of Directors of our Art Center?
I currently live in Norfolk with my family. I have a degree in Art and Graphic Design from Northeast Community College. I am a graphic designer at Blackburn Manufacturing. Art has always been a part of me, it is what I enjoy and relate to the most. I wanted to get more involved in the Arts within the area and to spread the message about what the Art Center has to offer.
What inspired you to become involved with our Art Center, and how do you see the role of the board in promoting artistic endeavors?
I enjoyed attending the special events at the Art Center offered yearly. I wanted to get more involved in the community and my artistic ability. Spreading awareness and involvement will help draw people to the Arts.
Looking forward, what opportunities do you see for the Arts Center in terms of art opportunities / community engagement / education?
Education beyond the visual arts. Literary, culinary, home brewing, and sewing will bring variety to what can be offered.
Share a personal experience of a class event or other interaction involving the Art Center that made a lasting impression?
The event I attended for the Art Center was the Soup R Art at Divots Event Center several years ago. I invited a friend to attend. Music was playing in the background while people enjoyed looking at artist’s amazing pieces. We had an amazing time. I enjoyed the atmosphere, and it sparked a passion in me. Since that first experience, I have made a commitment to attend this event yearly.
If resources were limitless, what kind of exhibition, permanent display, or space would you envision for the Arts Center to introduce?
An exhibition of people taking their camera on a new experience as a group. They have to record and reveal what impacted them during their adventure.
